Markus Rast

Markus is a Master student in Geology at ETH Zürich. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences from ETH Zürich in 2018. The topic of his Bachelor thesis was the kinematics of the Ivrea zone (Southern Alps). The aim of the thesis was to investigate possible dome structures in the lower crust using field observations, zircon dating, and conventional geothermobarometry. In autumn 2019, Markus started his Master’s thesis with Dr. Jonas Ruh and will study the geology and paleomagnetics along the Bedretto tunnel in the Gotthard massif (Central Alps). Markus is looking forward to combining field observations with analytical methods to contribute to a better understanding of past tectonic processes.
