Markus Rast

Markus is a doctoral student in the Structural Geology and Tectonics group at ETH Zürich, where he also received his Bachelors and Masters degree in Earth Sciences. During his Master Thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Jonas Ruh, he investigated time constraints on the intrusion and deformation of the Rotondo granite (Gotthard massif, Central Alps). Additionally, he performed numerical shear experiments of quartz-biotite aggregates, which were used to study geometrical strain weakening and mixed aggregate flow laws. In February 2021, he started his Doctorate, which aims to better understand the influence of fluid overpressure on the mechanics of fault zones in clay-rich rocks.
