Ana Lorena Abila
Ana Lorena Abila, known among her colleagues as Alena, is currently pursuing her Earth Science M.Sc., Major in Geology, at ETHZ. She obtained her B.S. in Geology from the University of the Philippines in 2017. She then pursued graduate classes in her undergraduate university while working with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, where she focused on mapping active faults. Her M.Sc. thesis, supervised by Dr. Vincenzo Picotti of the Earth Surface Dynamics Group (ETH) and co-supervised by Dr. Whitney Behr of the Structural Geology Group (ETH) and Dr. Christoph Schmidt (Université de Lausanne), focused on understanding Quaternary deformation on the northwestern edge of the Jura fold-and-thrust belt by mapping fluvial terraces and structures along the Doubs River in northwestern France and dating these observations. Alena’s interests lie in faults and deformation, combining field techniques and laboratory methods.
